Searching for a PS3 on sale can be a daunting task. I guess that enough people are still buying them that you don’t see them on sale often. It can be annoying if you only have a set amount of money to work with and it’s not quite enough to make the purchase.
I’m right there with you! I have tried to justify the item in so many ways for so long. I figured I could sell all my old PS2 games and console and start building a PS3 fund. I’ve even thought about my old jeans in the closet, the ones with holes in them and seem all fashionable and seeing what I could sell them for on eBay. I dug through the basement in the junk room looking for old board games and stuffed animals to auction off online. We even had a yard sale so I could try to earn enough money to buy the PS3. I grossed just over 50 bucks. As an aside, garage sales are not the way to go! You’ll make much more money selling your stuff on eBay.
In days gone by I felt the same way. When compared to other game systems the PS3 is far-and-away superior. I was sold when I found it was Blu-Ray. Obviously, the games are awesome in HD and I just upgraded my Netflix membership to include Blu-Ray/HD movies as well. Try selling that angle to the wife! If you’re not already hooked on HD it only takes 1 day of having it in your house and you’ll never go back. I had won her over on every point exept the price.
I’ve been around the block on this concept and if I have not been able to find a better deal on a game system that also plays Blu-Ray than the PS3. Even when it’s not on sale! The average Blu-Ray player will cost you $200-$250 but it doesn’t play games. Unfortunately for Microsoft, HD-DVD was not the chosen format going forward and this will ultimately hurt their sales. The challenge remains in getting the PS3 at a discount.
I searched on eBay and some other traditional auction sites and found that there really aren’t any PS3 Sale Prices out there. The value may be there but the overall cost is higher because of all the stuff they include. The goal here is to spend as little money as possible, not more.
In the end I had to get outside the box. I started investigating unique bid auction sites. There are a few decent ones out there but the one that stands out to me is www.auctions4acause.com. The selection they have for affordable items is far superior to the other sites. You’ll find cars, boats and vacations on the other sites. That’s all well and good but I just want a PS3!
I knew I had a winner when I found that site. They had 2 items going for them in that they had the item I wanted at a potentially very inexpensive price. I visited the site and setup an account. I placed 3 bids and hoped that they were unique and the lowest. I was only slightly discouraged when I didn’t win the first time. A few days later another was being auctioned. I placed a few more bids and slept well that night. Bingo! This time I had a winner. 7 days later I was playing Hot Shots Golf on my new PS3. $59 was all I had spent.64. Not bad, huh?
It can take a few minutes of reading to truly grasp the concept of the lowest unique bid auction style. After you grasp the idea you could become addicted. Since that time that I won the PS3 I’ve bid on and won 3 other items including an iPod Nano (they have the best iPod Prices) and $400 gas card. I’ve won over $1,200 worth of stuff for about $350 in bid fees.
I wouldn’t suggest the big box stores to find the best prices. Create an account at Auctions4aCause and see what kind of deal you can get.
